Artlyst

Custom App Design
Project Overview
Artlyst is an application aimed at improving the shopping experience for buying art supplies. It is meant to help people have an easier and more enjoyable experience, with less stress and more confidence.
Challenge
The primary Goals for this project are as follows:

• Make shopping for art supplies easier
• Reduce stress and anxiety
• Create a catalog of real-world examples of various art supplies.

Considerations and challenges are based around people not having enough information to be confident with their choices.

They include:
• No examples of the materials
• Buyer's remorse
• Choice overload

Design constraints are as follows:
• Phone application
• No sales through app

User Research/ User Personas/ Empathy map/ Market Research

The focus on this section was to collect information and do research across the range of art products, buyers' behaviors and feelings towards buying art supplies. One of the main points of this section was to test the initial hypothesis and see if moving forward was practical.

Above, are the collected research notes that served as the base for which direction to move forward towards. Included in this was a survey and assessment as well as interviews.

Wireframes

This phase of the project consisted of creating a user journey based on the goals outlined from the research. This is followed by creating low fidelity story boards and defining the Red-line features. The focus for the app was narrowed down here, and the red line design became the home screen-->down the categories-->to the individual product bio page.

Prototype and High Fidelity

This portion of the project focused on creating a low and high-fidelity wireframe in a program. For this project I used Figma.

Because this application will work like a database, it wasn’t practical to include every possible page that could be opening. The focus on the Red-line features is only set up to go through each function one time. This is adequate to show how the system could work in the future.

The prototype for this project focuses primarily on the red line features and is refined only enough to not pull the tester out of the experience. Some features such as placement, high details, assets and sizing are made as placeholders, in real production these assets would be developed by the company itself along with animations.
The goals for this prototype are to have a user interface with the category and biography feature of the site.

Below are the takeaways from this project prototype:

Interviewed user: Janae This user had overall positive feedback but would like to see a larger selection of materials. She easily went through the categories portion and at the product bio page. She commented that, “having a video is a really nice touch”.
